The Endless Amount of Content of Mario Maker 2

If you enjoy platformer games, or just know about general video games, you have heard about Mario and his plethora of games. Starting out as a character in the 1981 release of Donkey Kong brought this plumber into many homes and thanks to Nintendo, he has never left. Mario is well known for his classic side-scrolling platform games and has recently been recognized for his great 3D games (most recently being Mario Odyssey but Mario Galaxy will always hold a special place in my heart).
If you enjoy those side-scrolling challenges, Mario's 2019 release might be just what you need. Mario Maker 2 is every 2D Mario fan's dream. The first Mario Maker made its way to the Wii U back in 2015 and gave players free rein over the levels. After seeing the success of Mario Maker on a poorly performing console like the Wii U, Nintendo wanted to try it again on their new console. 2019 saw a lot of great things for Nintendo and the Switch, one of those things being the addition of Mario Maker 2 to the platform.
What is Mario Maker?
Mario Maker is a level builder that includes multiple platformers Mario styles ranging from the first Mario game up to even Mario 3D World. Each style has everything you need to make your own level that could blend in with official levels from the games. All of the appropriate enemies and things like pipes and power-ups are included to make amazing levels. If you want to be creative and make your own levels or if you just want endless Mario levels to play, Mario Maker has you covered.
Now one thing to note about this game is that to fully experience Mario Maker 2, you will need Nintendo Online and a Wi-Fi connection. If you want to play levels that other creators published, or if you yourself want to publish a level, you will need both of these things. But if you don't have those things but you bought the game, don't worry! Nintendo has included a story mode that includes many Nintendo-made levels that have you rebuilding Peach's castle and learning the mechanics of how Mario moves. This mode is great for fun relaxing gameplay or for someone who just wants to play on the go.
Ninji Speed Runs
Ninji Speed Runs were a fan favorite. Sadly with the announcement of the latest Bowser's castle-themed course on April 14th, this also marks the end of new speed runs. So why was this mode so well-loved? Well, these courses were Nintendo-made levels that allowed players worldwide to compete against each other for the best speed run time. The results include times for bronze, silver, and gold with awards to go along with your time. This was something that more competitive players really enjoyed, and many are sad to see this mode come to an end.
Types of Levels
There are different levels that you can filter through to see which ones you like the best. I personally love the speed run courses. If you enjoy precisely timed jumps and
tight windows for shell throws, you will love these levels too. Someone who likes to challenge themselves with Insane jumps off the heads of enemies might be interested in the Kaizo levels.
If hard levels aren't your thing and you want to enjoy some more relaxing levels, creators have you covered. There are plenty of levels that you can just experience, and by that I mean you don't even have to move. In auto Mario levels, the creator has the level itself move you through to the finish line. These levels are always interesting to watch because creators always seem to have new ways to fling Mario across the screen. There are also so many levels where you ride your way through the level as the music plays. The song can range from game music to anime music. These levels are always so neat to play because you can easily see how much time and effort went into making them.
If you are one of those people who likes to see how long you can go before losing all of your lives like in normal 2D Mario games, there is an endless run mode where you can go through easy or hard levels and see many random levels you can clear before you run out of lives.
Enjoy the concept of an endless run, but maybe don't want to go all in? You can look into trying a Super World. Super Worlds are player-built worlds that act as regular Mario worlds complete with mushroom houses and castles at the end. These can be started and you can choose to come back to them at any point.
Ending Thoughts
No matter what level of ability you have Mario Maker will have levels compatible with your style of gameplay. This is a great game to pop in and play for five minutes or two hours. With so many creators constantly making new levels, there will always be content. Leave below what are your favorite types of levels that you can just never get bored of!
