Starting My Journey Into Shojo | Horimiya

Welcome to one of the most wholesome high school romance animes I have witnessed

Starting My Journey Into Shojo | Horimiya

I have not watched a lot of Shojo anime in my time, but seeing as so many good ones have been circling, I figured I’d start with one that my boyfriend has been saying we should watch. Horimiya being my only Shojo that I’ve watched aside from Ouran High School Host Club back in middle school means that I have very little to go off of. But, I do think this is a great show to start off with. the show displays such healthy communication and relationships throughout the two seasons.

Having a romance anime that actually allows me to watch the development of the relationship and see what happens after they get together is so refreshing. Yes, seeing the buildup over a season and the finally is the two getting together is nice, but seeing how the relationship improves and develops after the initial get together is amazing and I want to watch more shows like that.

The personal development of every character in the show was what really surprised me. I was expecting a focus on the main couple with some action of a few supporting characters, but everyone grew and became more of their own person throughout the two seasons. Miyamura definitely changed the most, being able to come out of his shell once he found a friend group. I was not expecting supporting character like Sakura to show so much self growth. These types of things kept me incredibly invested even during the side stories.

Being able to watch such mature characters without much worry of a massive miscommunication ruining everything that has finally been built up is such a refreshing change of pace. Seeing all these amazing memories that these high schoolers are creating while they can is heartwarming!

Seeing how they dealt with the second season was such a shocker for me. I was expecting a season dedicated to the summer vacations, the group trips. I was not expecting a look back on season one. I loved how this was used to develop the side characters. Being able to reveal more of their personality and their lives was such a perfect way to open up the story. Seeing these parts of these characters that were only side characters made me feel more connected to them. I rooted for them way more after learning more about their lives.

This is such a perfect anime. I would not change a single thing about it and I would beg for more content in any way I can get it. I need to see their summer trips together before college, I want to see peaks at their college life in the style of season two. This is an anime that I would recommend to anyone.
