Code Your Helper | Omega Crafter Review
Code your helpers as you explore new areas and fight new bosses in this adorable survival crafter
Games that have you building up a small space with sparse equipment into large towns are easy to fine, but where are the games where you can code helpers to improve your town’s productivity? Omega Crafter was a shocking entry in my games played in 2024. My partner Minimap gave me a code for this crafting survival game and I loved a lot of aspects of this game.
What makes Omega Crafter stand out in the saturated market of survival games is the use of Grammis. You will have one Grammi that will travel with you and help you scavenge and fight, and city grammis that will stay back and help out in your mini town. The best thing about these little friends is the coding aspect. You can code individual grammis to perform different tasks. These tasks can include cooking, planting and chopping trees or crops, or crafting materials. As you progress, you will collect so many grammis, this means you will never run out of new helpers whenever you unlock a new mechanic. These guys will help save so much time, having someone else craft materials for new weapons while you go out and handle other tasks makes this game feel less grindy than others in the genre.
The map is large and split in large sections that you unlock with progression. The first two sections are unlocked from the very beginning, but the third one is locked behind progression. Hunt around for the unique aspect of the region to find the tokens and free the boss to fight him. This is the main game loop for each region. Once the second boss has been defeated, fog encasing the third area will disappear and you’re free to roam. Each of the four explorable regions have its own enemies, plants, and collectibles so it’s worth it to take your time with each. The main thing that will help progression is to increase your world level. This will have you to gather materials in the currently unlocked region.
One major thing to consider is that this game is better in multiplayer. The game loop can quickly become repetitive and it can turn the leveling and progress feel like a grind. Having someone to tackle the missions with you and talk with along the way makes the game far more enjoyable. The game can still be fun solo, but having more than just yourself adds a nice social aspect.
