Become the Darkness and Corrupt the Holy | Revelatio Game Review
Check out the perfect game to bring in the fall season.
Step into a world where you corrupt the good and holy. The haunting game, Revelatio developed and published by Guild Studio brings the eerie vibes with its roguelite, tile-based gameplay. Wreak havoc as you tear through nuns, soldiers, and archers with your army of dark corruption powers.
After getting corrupted by the darkness, you now fight to bring darkness to the world. This tile-based gameplay has you balancing mana costs with who you deploy on the field. Starting out with four usable characters, they will each cost a unique amount of mana to place on field. [Tip: first turn in each fight, mana costs is cut in half.]
Every character in the game will have their own movement and attack patterns. This makes it crucial to memorize each character’s abilities in order to plan out the best attacks. Keep track of your mana, you will start out with 50 and continue to gain more after each turn, make a game plan for which units you want to deploy and where.
If you need an extra boost, take a look at your three skills. These will use both mana and dark essence. Dark essence is a currency, you start the run with three, and gain more after each round. They are primarily used for skills, but some characters also need one to deploy. I recommend saving dark essence for your corruption skill. After a unit dies, it’s dead for the rest of the run, so corrupting enemy units is the only way to increase your numbers.
To have an enemy fight for your side, you will need to deplete all their faith. This is shown in the diamond figure next to the unit’s head. Certain moves and abilities will reduce faith, but the consistent way is to use your corruption skill. Corrupting a few good units is the way to go so when you get to the boss, you stand a chance. The boss battles will have some minions helping them, but don’t worry, just focus on the boss. [Tip: you only need to defeat the boss in order to pass the stage.]
Now, starting out, you will struggle the further you get in your run. You lack mana, dark essence, and high level starter units. Here are some of the upgrades that you are going to want to pay attention to.
In-game rooms: You will be able to choose rooms as you go through your route and you will want to stop at Baptism and Stigmata rooms. Baptism rooms will give you a increase in either health, attack power, or speed. Stigmata rooms will give you more complex buffs. Some include deploying the unit anywhere on the board, others will have the unit heal upon summoning or attacking.
Sanctum Upgrades: These are upgrades that can make the biggest difference. After each run, you will gain the currency used here. Increase the starting amount of mana and dark essence or unlock new in-game buffs. [Tip: focus on buying all of these first before trying to finish your run through all three chapters.]
Divine Hall: Once you finish your run, you will be able to select one of the units that you used. This will make a copy that you can use as one of the four starter units. If you make any major upgrades to a unit, you will need to re-send them to the Divine Hall in order to update the unit’s buffs.
This is a challenging game, and the dark themes make it a perfect game to try out going into October.
