A New Indie Roguelike To Check Out | Cowboy 3030
The latest indie game that I have tried out and spent hours with.
A fun roguelike takes form in Cowboy 3030. Take control of a selection of different cowboys and hone your unique abilities as you take on robots in an attempt to get to the end of the line.
At the time of playing Cowboy 3030, it is in Early Access, so it is possible that more content may be added later on. Even right now, this game is such a fun time. Each run I try out new weapons found in chests. The guns are more or less the same for each character, what differs is the abilities. There will defiantly be one that you enjoy.
One of the most important parts of a game is how to feels to play. Cowboy 3030’s controls feels quick and responsive. This is what I wish Overwatch’s controls felt like, so to finally find this game, I was sold. The jumps, the aiming and shooting, and the dashes all feel perfect in this game.
Each run will have you running into different rooms and having a shoot out with a series of different robots. All enemies have two types of attacks. Blue attacks and red attacks. The red attacks are ones that you can dash through to avoid damage, but the blue ones will require a power up from the grid-style chart that lets you increase multiple aspects of your character. There are four types of enemies that you will find in these normal rooms: red, blue, yellow, and green. This is also their levels from easiest to hardest. The main difference between all of the robots are the style of their attacks and the amount of HP they have. After clearing a number of rooms, you will come across a boss level. Each boss has a unique set of attack patterns and will test the skills that you have developed so far. The satisfaction of defeating a new boss is also followed by a bunch of gold, a boost to your power-up grid, and three options of new guns to test out.
Shooting is the main focus of the game but there are a few things to help extend your run. I already mentioned that you will find chests with other gun options, each weapon will show the amount of damage they do, the reload time, the amount of bullets, and the firing rate. You can clearly see the better weapon and chose which ones you may want to experiment with. The power-up grid is unique for each character, but it offers simple improvements like increased running speed and increased reload speed. To make the impact bigger, you can buy or earn (by defeating bosses) blocks that will boast the percentage and this can be stacked to vastly improve the buffs.
This game really has you rely on your skills rather than falling back on abilities. It is a great game that will have you trying one more run before stopping. With the solid controls, you will feel like each death was earned instead of feeling like something unfair happened.
I recommend this for anyone who wants something pretty mindless and just wants to shoot some robots and try to make it to the end of this very satisfying run.
