Who is Sayu?

Sayu is a 4-star character who was introduced into Genshin Impact during the 2.1 update. She wields the power of anemo and uses a claymore weapon, making her the only character with this specific combination. She has been thought of by some to be "mini Jean" in terms of her healing and ability to still do damage. With this comparison, many might find it odd to use her if you already have Jean or want to use Sayu as an anemo batter if you have someone like Sucrose who can funnel energy particles better. So onto the question: why do you wanna play Sayu?

Crystal Fly Hunting

Crystal Flies are a crucial item that travelers will want to keep in stock if they want to condense their original resin for faster domain farming. They can be found in various areas of Teyvat but will be scared away when you approach them. This can make things challenging, except if you have Sayu in your party. Sayu's passive ability keeps crystal flies from detecting you, making her a staple in any traveler's team. Crystal flies will still be startled after you catch the first one, but if you are able to get close enough to catch one without the whole group being startled if a huge benefit.

Overworld Exploration

The land of Teyvat is expansive. This means that exploring all of an area is a time-consuming task. With the help of Sayu's elemental skill, getting from one place to another without the use of waypoints has become a breeze. Sayu's elemental skill gives her 15% faster movement speed without using stamina as she rolls in a ball. This means you can roll with Sayu, pop out and run, then use the skill off cooldown and never have to slow down. The one thing stopping Sayu from being unbelievably broken in this sense is that while in her skill, her stamina does not refill, so you will have to wait for her stamina to recover if you are out.

Having a second anemo character will give you access to anemo resonance, this specific one will give a movement speed boost, further increasing the ease of exploration.

Having a claymore in your party can save you time when it comes to mining in the overworld. If you need to collect crystals, a claymore user will cut your time in half. Only certain weapon types can break minerals in the overworld. Things like bows or normal attacks from catalysts do nothing, but swords, catalyst-charged attacks, and polearms can chip away at the rock's defenses. By far though, the best weapon to take with you if you are wandering around trying to get more crystals are the claymores. Claymore will break those stubborn crystals in three swings compared to three minutes with a polearm or sword.

Battle

Sayu is an extremely useful 4-star character. Not only is her speed useful for evasion, but her claymore weapon is great for breaking enemy shields which can prove a problem for many travelers.

One of the most impactful parts of a character can easily be their burst. With some characters having burst costs as low as 40, Sayu might not seem that great when you realize that she has an 80-cost burst. This just means that an energy recharge weapon will be a good way to go when deciding which weapon you want her to carry. Her high-cost burst is evened out when you learn that her burst does two things: damage and healing. Her specific burst involved tossing out a prop that will heal your team up to 70% and then go on to beat up enemies in the surrounding areas. Once all of the enemies are defeated, the prop will heal your team to full health.

Something like this can be a great help for anyone, but it comes especially handy in certain team comps. In my personal team, I pair Sayu with Xiao. She is a good battery for Xiao and with his burst draining his health over time, having a healer in my team is basically a necessity. Sayu has proven her worth and that she can be an important member of any team comp.
